Homeopathy is ideal for babies and children. The mildly sweet pills, powders or liquids are easy to dispense and are more palatable than many conventional medicines.  The highly diluted natural substances that form homeopath remedies mean that they are safe to use in the very young, including new born babies.

More than that, homeopathy can raise the immunity of children to help deal with illness throughout their childhood.  Homeopathy not only helps when your child is ill.  It can also help prevent illness and give support through difficult periods in their life.

Homeopathy works fast with children because they are usually full of vitality.  Acute conditions such as ear infections, tonsillitis and flu, can often be resolved quickly using the right remedy, often avoiding the need to use conventional medicines.  Babies also respond quickly to homeopathic treatment - there are remedies for colic, teething and nappy rash, for example.

The suggestions below are for minor complaints, however, if you child's symptoms are severe please contact me and/or your GP.

Teething: when the child is inconsolable and angry - try Chamomilla 30c

Colic: when the baby doubles up in pain - try Magnesium phos 30c

Fever: when it is sudden after being chilled - try Aconite 30c, with a very high temperature and a red face - try Belladonna 30c or for slow fevers with chills, bone pain and fatigue - try Gelsemium 30c

The remedies suggested can be bought in many chemists and health shops.

Complaints that need professional treatment include cradle-cap, recurrent vomitting, sleep problems, digestive trouble, pain, recurrent infections, asthma and eczema, menstrual problems and acne in teenagers, as well as developmental and behavioural problems such as attention deficit disorder, temper tantrums, severe shyness and anxiety.  In children with such complaints, a full case history is needed before I can select treatment.
